How to Clean out our Jars after our Candle burns out?
Upcycle your jars after running out of your favourite candle, it might seem basic but it is so handy to have jar containers for keeping some of our day to day products in them!
Whenever you go through your favourite jar candle, throwing away the pretty container may seem a little wasteful, how about cleaning it out and keeping it to store some handy products in them?
Or even use them for as a decor staple with something in them, some of these containers may not always be just basic glass, these may be fancy arty containers that could really bring in a touch of color to your room.
How do we know it is time to say goodbye to our Candle and upcycle it?
Whenever we reach 1/2-inch of wax at the bottom of the jar. Burning the rest of it may damage the container or the surface the Candle sits on.
It is then time to get rid of the wax from the bottom and keep our beautiful jars for something creative, shhh… We then have an excuse to buy a new Candle! But you may ask, how do I get rid of he stubborn wax out of the container? We will explain our tested method on how we do it.
Step 1: Boil water in a kettle and pour the hot water into the jar. Don’t fill the jar all the way to the top, only about half way to cover the remaining wax and the bottom of the jar. Let this sit for about 10 minutes until the wax melts and foats to the top of the jar. The wick also needs to be removed.
Step 2: Now that the water is cooled down and wax is sitting on top of the water. Remove the wax with some sort of a spatula, don’t ever pour the water and wax down the sink. It will clog your pipes. After removing the wax from the container making sure there is no wax resedue in water. We can pour the water out. If there is any wax or greasy resedue leftover at the bottom, simply clean it out with kitchen towel. Than remove any sticker that is present on the candle.
Step 3: After all the wax and stickers are gone from the jar we can clean it with a sponge and dish soap, just to be sure the jar is nice and clean. You can also put the dish in the dishwasher.
And there you go, this is our tested method for cleaning out the jar. It is simple and easy, always remember that we test all of these out on soy wax. Soy wax is so much easier to clean out with paraffin. Therefore this method may take a little longer to clean out paraffin wax.
How can we reuse it?
Okay but now that we cleaned out container/jar out, how can we reuse it?
Of course it is all depending on the size of the jar, big candle glass jars can even be used in the kitchen, to store eg.rice, pasta, flour.
Smaller jars can be reused to keep cotton pads or cotton ear buds in them in our bathroom.
What if we want to decorate our room with the jars, what can we put in them?
We can simply place fried flowers in the jars, or use them as storage/decor for office supplies.
